Six structure fires and 25 outside fires are among the more than 200 emergency responses local firefighters attended throughout November.
Fire crews responded to 18 motor vehicles and attended 25 calls for medical service, as well as dealt with 20 calls relating to carbon monoxide and gas.
Nov. 18 firefighters from all three stations responded to a large detached garage fire on the 900 block of Ross Street that damaged exterior siding of nearby homes, utility poles and trees, however it did not cause any interior damage to nearby homes.
The following day, on Nov. 19, local firefighters welcomed the Man Van to Fire Station No. 2 to offer men aged 40 to 70 a free drop-in Prostate Specific Antigen blood testing as well as additional health measurements, including mental wellness checks for anyone 18 or older.
The service also conducted a high-rise training exercise at Mayfair Manon on Nov. 20 as part of its regular efforts to make sure fire responders are prepared for various emergency incidents.
Firefighters also provided safety tips for the Holiday Season, reminding residents about the hazards of dry Christmas trees and unattended candles.
Firefighters also recommend inspecting holiday lights for frayed wires or broken bulbs before hanging on trees and ensure any outdoor lights are weatherproof and rated for the weather.
Firefighters also issued a warning about staying off ice unless it has been officially deemed safe and says the river is always off-limits.
