Charges in highway fatality
A Strathmore man has been charged with drunk driving causing death after a head-on collision near Drumheller last winter.
On Friday RCMP announced the charges stemming from an accident on Jan. 6, when a pick-up truck collided with a car on Highway No. 9 east of Drumheller, north of Rosebud.
The driver of the car, a 39-year-old man from Drumheller, was pronounced dead at the scene while a female passenger was sent to hospital. The truck’s driver was also transported to hospital.
RCMP say they have laid 10 charges against Sean Powell, 50, of Strathmore, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving causing death and refusing to provide a breath sample.
The man was issued an immediate roadside driving sanction and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 20 in Drumheller.
