Saturday is the final day to submit suggestions to the City of Medicine Hat in regards to the future of the Towne Square sea-cans.
The future of the eight multi-coloured market pods will be considered and debated by city council on Nov 18, with community input available by that date, following a proposal put forward by administration to move them from downtown.
If the proposal is ultimately accepted, the sea-cans will be off site before winter and then work with begin on repurposing them for community benefit, and the city is seeking informal public input on potential future uses, up to and including donating them to not-for-profit groups, charities, or user groups.
Residents are encouraged to visit shapeyourcity.medicinehat.ca to post suggestions online that have high community benefit. Examples given online included murals, sidewalk seating areas, greenhouses or emergency response.
The most popular upvoted ideas will be shared with council on Nov 18. It is noted that these ideas have not been vetted for feasibility, but may be moderated if they do not align with what the city is asking for.
