asmith@medicinehatnews.com The fourth intake for the Housing Infill and Redevelopment Incentive is now open. HIRIP aims to provide more multi-family housing options for Hatters and create a more diverse housing market, and by doing so, enhance the value of the city’s urban areas, while targeting areas where infrastructure such as road access and utility connections are already present. The incentive provides financial assistance to developers and property owners to encourage the development and construction on infill properties. Those who own an infill property may be eligible for an incentive of $15,000 per dwelling unit for new residential development on a single site, as well a $7,500 incentive for the development of a backyard suite. “Infill and redevelopment projects often come with additional costs and challenges, making incentives like HIRIP crucial for urban redevelopment,” the City of Medicine Hat says in a release. “The program provides financial assistance to developers and property owners to encourage the rapid development and construction of infill and redevelopment properties.” The city says it hopes the incentive “spurs growth, expansion and innovation in our community.” The city notes that application does not guarantee approval, and is subject to remaining funds available under the Incentive Program at the time of application. Applications will remain open until Nov. 20. 10
