@MedicineHatNews The 2025-26 city budget is back on the agenda today as council holds a special session to discuss the municipal operating budget proposal for the next two years. Council members are also expected to receive a detailed list of capital projects that could be deferred in the next budget cycle. Staff said late last month that they had trimmed projects totalling $11.7 million from a list of recommended capital work outlined this summer. Staff have called for a 5.6 per cent property tax increase in each of the next two years. The third of four meetings for preliminary budget discussions will take place today, stating a 4 p.m. in council chambers. A final meeting, outlining assumptions in the land and economic development divisions, will be held on Nov. 13. The budget will be presented for council debate on Dec. 2. 9
