Brooks man charged after reports of weapons being thrown on the highway

By Medicine Hat News on October 29, 2024.

A Brooks man has been charged with breaking his bail conditions by “throwing weapons” at vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway east of the city.

Mounties in that city say they arrived at the sight of a complaint and found several martial arts weapons in the backpack of John Lewis, including nunchucks, throwing stars and a “large blade.”

He was arrested and charge with unauthorized possession of a weapon and three counts of possession contrary to release conditions. He was held in custody ahead of a scheduled court appearance on Oct. 29.

Deactivated cellphone search

Mounties are reminding parents that even deactivated cellular phones are able to reach 911, and the devices should not be given to children as play things.

Brooks detachment reported Monday that it received 25 calls to the emergency number on Oct. 23, during which a child’s voice was heard before a hang-up. They were unable to locate the source of the call in the Willowbrook Estates area.
