A man accused of sexual assault at the assisted living facility where he was employed will have his matters dealt with at Court of King’s Bench by judge alone, his attorney told the Court of Justice at Medicine Hat on Tuesday.

Asim Omerovic, 65, was charged with four counts of sexual assault in September 2023 by Medicine Hat police after receiving separate reports from residents of a local retirement home.

Prosecutors are proceeding with the case as an indictable matter, which involves the potential for longer jail time in the case of a guilty finding.

No plea is registered on docket court listings, but defence attorney Lyndon Heidinger told court Tuesday the election in the case is for the matter to be heard by judge alone at King’s Bench.

The matter will be arraigned in Medicine Hat on criminal appearance court date in early December.
