@MedicineHatNews Two centres in southwest Saskatchewan will hold elections for council next month, while mayoral positions were acclaimed. Michelle Mackenzie has been acclaimed to another term as the mayor of Maple Creek, while seven candidates will vie for six council seats in the Nov. 14 municipal election. All urban centres in Saskatchewan, as well as odd-numbered rural municipality wards, are up for election this fall. MacKenzie was first elected mayor in a byelection in 2018, and won the position by acclamation in 2020. Incumbents seeking re-election in Maple Creek are Len Barkman, Leah Baratta, Betty Abbott and Tina Cresswell, along with challengers Corrine Collura, Shane Wurtz and Hans Martens. The top six vote-getters in the. Nov. 14 general election will be elected. Similarly in Leader, seven candidates seek six seats on that town’s council In Leader, Aaron Wenzel will serve another term as mayor, as his was the only name submitted on nomination day on Oct. 9. Council candidates are incumbents Dustin Heatcoat and John-Mark Bredeson along with challengers Dustin Bischoff, Isabelle Blohm, Craig Tondevold, Riley Feiffer and Tim Ryerson. 11
