Trail rehabilitation work and lighting upgrades to begin start of the week

By Medicine Hat News on September 21, 2024.

Beginning Monday, city crews will begin trail rehabilitation and outdoor lighting projects in a section of Echo Dale Regional Park that are planned to complete in approximately two weeks.

Two trails will undergo upgrades located between Police Point Park and Gas City Campground. Following the upgrades trail users should notice a smoother journey between Gas City Campground and Echo Dale Regional Park as crews plan to remove two Texas gates along the trail to improve accessibility.

The south side of the parking lot at Police Point Park will also receive trail upgrades between the park entrance and Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. The city says crews will work in an environmentally-friendly manner that ensures the safety and stability for wildlife and plants in the area.

There will be minor impacts to parking space during the upgrades.

Crews will also be replacing the lighting around the boat lake and south side of the swim lake at Echo Dale Regional Park to ensure the pathways around the parks stay well-lit year round.

The city expects this work will have minor impacts to boat hub parking and the walking path.

Weather permitting, the city expects complete all trail rehabilitation and lighting upgrades sometime in the middle of October.

Residents are asked to obey posted signage identifying trail closures in the area.
