On Monday evening parents and caregivers of public school students are invited to join a free presentation that will provide insights into social media trends with children and youth. Youth specialist Madison Cameron, who works for the Centre for Trauma Informed Practices, will be hosting an hour-long online presentation highlighting ways social media can change the way youth perceive themselves. “Together we will gain insight into apps that youth are using that adults may not be aware of,” states a press release. Cameron will highlight the difference in the human experience between youth and their parents, and that being a caregiver is not as less-than-stellar as what many believe. She will provide an adult perspective and strategies that can be used to strengthen real-life connections with children who spend ample time on their personal devices. The session is planned from 6-8 p.m. and will allow time for questions, and is aimed for parents who have children in Grades 4 and up. The Zoom presentation can be attended by clicking on a Zoom meeting link that can be found on the public school division’s website under the ‘News’ tab. The presentation is not intended for students. 7
