@MedicineHatNews Oil and gas companies in Saskatchewan have secured millions in grants to upgrade their facilities in the southwest corner, that provincial government announced among $25 million in outlays. Money from the Saskatchewan Technology Fund will help 13 oilpatch and mining firms reduce greenhouse gas emissions. About half the money, $12.5 million, will aid Strathcona Resources capture and sequester carbon at a facility near North Battleford. Awards specific to southwest Saskatchewan: – Crescent Point Energy, $2.83 million, will reduce flaring at unstated locations in the southwest by building a gathering system connected to processing plants operated by Steel Reef (it has facilities near Coleville and Shaunavon); – Whitecap Energy, $950,000, to reduce gas flaring at an oil battery near Swift Current with a pipeline to connect to the SaskEnergy gas distribution system; – Campus Energy will receive $500,000 to upgrade compressors at Loverna and Milton gas plants, located north of Alsask, to better capture methane; – Secure Energy, $30,250, to install higher efficiency burner and management system at its midstream facility near Kindersley. The Environment Ministry states that private-sector investment in the projects will total $277 million. 11
