news@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat College raised its Pride flag Monday as Pride Week celebrations commence with several activities planned by the Students Association that promote an environment of inclusivity and equality. Association president Lily Schaerer says Pride activities are open for everyone on campus to take part in and foster learning in support of the LGBTQ2S+ community. “We are incredibly excited to celebrate Pride Week with many fun events at MHC. This is an important opportunity to showcase our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for everyone on campus,” said Schaerer. Today between 1 and 3 p.m the college is hosting a Q&A with Metis and white author Jen Ferguson in Big Eagle. The discussion will be focused on writing queer and Indigenous stories. Tuesday the college will also open its ‘Show your Pride selfie station/message of Pride Heart Wall” between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday for three hours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Pride Information Hub will be open with resources, games and snacks. On Thursday the college is hosting a Pride button making activity session between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pride Week on campus wraps up Friday with the Pride “Gaymes” runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The college’s Brook’s campus will also be hosting a number of Pride events including a selfie station, Pride Heart Wall and Pride crafts and popcorn. “We are fortunate to have an active Students Association that encourages our learners to come together in unity,” college president Kevin Shufflebotam. “It’s what we strive for at Medicine Hat College, creating a safe environment where we can learn from each other, fostering a sense of belonging and growing as a community.” 12
