Our Collective Journey hosting addiction recovery conference in November

With resiliency coaches back in local schools, Our Collective Journey is having a busy autumn so far, but eyes are firmly fixed on November for the second annual Southern Alberta Regional Recovery Conference.

Originally slated for mid-September, SARRCon is now planned to happen Nov. 6 and 7.

“There were a lot of other recovery oriented conferences happening at that time, and we just wanted to spread it out a bit as to not to duplicate,” said Derrick Lillico, OCJ community engagement co-ordinator.

The event itself is oriented toward those operating within the recovery field, both as individual professionals or as larger organizations, said Lillico. As people move to align with the new Alberta Recovery Model, it is his hope that it helps them to improve and connect with the greater network in the region.

“It’s an exceptional gathering for individuals and organizations dedicated to resilience and recovery,” said Lillico. “This event will be a cornerstone for those invested in a recovery oriented system of care.”

The event itself features myriad speakers, sessions and networking opportunities, as well as an opportunity for vendors to make connections with those interested in the resources they may provide.

“It’s really oriented for psychologists, counsellors, doctors, psychiatrists, social workers, or even anybody who’s, you know, struggling with addiction,” said Lillico. “It’s a great opportunity to come and to find out what resources we have, not only here in Medicine Hat, but across the province.”

After the inaugural event, organization has been wonderful, said Lillico, and Our Collective Journey is grateful for the interest and support of the recovery community at large.

“We’re trying to, you know, be the face of recovery here in Medicine Hat. Our Collective Journey provides recovery coaching to people who struggle with substance use disorder all across the province,” said Lillico. He added that many of those who work with the organization have lived experience with the issues they provide support for, which can help people feel safe and free from judgement.
