Const. Garrent Claxton has been charged with break and enter after evidence gathered from a 2022 ASIRT investigation determined the officer should be charged.

Claxton, an RCMP officer serving in the Banff Detachment, has been charged for allegedly breaking and entering into a hotel room occupied by two adult females with whom Claxton had socialized with earlier in the evening of October 23, 2022.

Claxton was charged last Wednesday, Sept. 4 after ASIRT’s investigations provided reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed after it was forwarded to the province’s Crown Prosecution Service to determine whether the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

The opinion that evidence did meet the provincial standard of prosecution was made by Michael Ewenson, who serves as ASIRT’s executive director.

Claxton was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Canmore on Sept. 25.
