A plan to build a major new solar field near the Cypress County hamlet of MacNeil – near the Empress plant sites – is now open for public comment.

EDP Renewables plans to build the “Blue Bridge Solar Park” on portions of 18 different quarter-sections near the intersection of Highway 41 and Township Road 202.

The facility would be capable of producing 150 megawatts of power for the Alberta grid via a planned substation.

The Alberta Utilities Commission announced Thursday that the application to approve the project (Proceeding No. 29044) is now open for public comment, though no timetable is given for its consideration.

Enerfin expansion

A plan to add a solar field to a company’s nearby wind farm north of Seven Persons is now open for public submissions.

Enerfin is currently completing the Winnifred Wind project, south of Rattlesnake Lake, and this summer, applied to build a 60-megawatt solar array within the wind farm’s footprint.

It would cover parts of three private quarter-sections on either side of Range Road 84 near the intersection with Township Road 114. That is in the County of Forty Mile, about 25 kilometres from Medicine Hat.

Written submissions to the AUC on the project (proceeding No. 29156) are due Sept. 23.
