news@medicinehatnews.com Routine prescribed burns began Sunday at CFB Suffield within the Range Training Area. In a public service announcement from the National Defence advises residents of Ralston, Suffield, Redcliff, Medicine Hat and other surrounding communities may see smoke as a result of the burns. “The CFB Suffield Fire Department and range control staff routinely conduct prescribed burns to maintain safety, training and operations in the Suffield Range Training Area,” reads the public service announcement. “The prescribed burns are co-ordinated with local stakeholders to ensure that residents and communities are safe at all times.” The burns will take place during daytime hours and will be supervised at all times. Residents who witness a fire occurring outside the Range Training Area perimeter are asked to report to local authorities by calling 911. The routine burns are expected to conclude at the end of March 2025. 7
