news@medicinehatnews.com Several city facilities will be closed by the Labour Day long weekend and will be reopening Tuesday Sept. 3, including city hall and all city administrative departments. The landfill, as well as the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, Crestwood Recreation and Co-op Place, will also be closed Monday. As well, there will be not resident waste collection on Labour Day and will resume Tuesday in Zone 2. The gym and fitness at the Big Marble Go Centre will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday. This weekend marks the last chance to swim at Echo Dale Regional Park before it closes for the season. City staff will be draining the swim lake Tuesday, however the boat lake and other park amenities will remain open. Several free activities are planned throughout the long weekend including the city’s block party celebrating first responders from noon and 4 p.m. Saturday at Towne Square. Also on Saturday, live music will be performed at various homes across the city during the fourth annual PorchFest Medicine Hat, starting at noon with a performance from Netty Mac. The Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre is hosting a free performance from Band of Household Cavalry as they kick off a province-wide tour. The free show runs Saturday between 7-10 p.m. On Sunday, the Elkwater Community Association will be hosting a $5 dollar barbecue and corn roast between 4:30-6:15 p.m. that includes a burger or hot dog, bag of chips and pop.
