This weekend the city is celebrating all the brave first responders who work tirelessly to keep communities safe during its weekly block party Saturday at Towne Square.

Members representing Medicine Hat Police and Fire Services, HALO Air Ambulance and the South Eastern Alberta Search and Rescue Association will be on site to visit with members of the community.

Elder Charlie Fox will also be in attendance to lead an honour song and prayer. Throughout the afternoon participants will be able to help assemble a teepee on site and enjoy performances from Indigenous Fancy Dancers and Jungle Dancers.

Lawrence Streifel will provide live entertainment and there are several activities planned for children, including face painting, a climbing wall and water blasters.

As well, Sally Sehn will be hosting a mini historical walking tour.

The free block party runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Towne Square and will also feature food trucks on site.

Next Saturday, Sept. 7, the city will host its final block party of the summer by celebrating teens and youth in the community.

Free parking downtown can be found on the third level of the Transit Parkade until September.
