Arrest made following domestic violence call to Saamis condos

The Medicine Hat Police Service made an arrest Saturday following a domestic violence complaint.

Police responded to a domestic violence complaint at a condominium complex located in the 1600 block of Saamis Drive shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday.

At the beginning of the incident, they believed a weapon had been involved in the incident and were able to evacuate occupants from the complex.

Police utilized an on-duty crisis negotiator to de-escalate the situation and safely take the suspect into custody. They utilized the MHPS tactical team, explosive disposal team and crisis negotiators to resolve the incident.

At 1:02 a.m. Saturday, a 27-year-old male was taken into custody and is awaiting a judicial interim release hearing. He’s charged with forcible confinement, assault by choking, breach of probation and breach of a conditional sentence order.

MHPS acknowledges the assistance of the Medicine Hat Fire Service and Alberta Health Services for their assistance.
