With summer break ending, the Medicine Hat Public Library is ramping up programming for teens, seeking help to make sure these programs continue to stay relevant and interesting for the city’s younger generations.

The library’s TIC TAC (Teens Initiating Change Together And Committed) committee is currently accepting applications through Sept. 12, when they will host the TIC TAC Open House. Over the years, the committee has been the mind behind establishing the young adult book collection and the Youthopia space.

“Our teen services have grown exponentially since then, culminating last year in a new home in the library for teens,” said Chris Brown, head of marketing and community engagement.

To this end, the library is looking for youths ages 13-19 and in Grades 7-12 who are library members, and able to spend approximately seven hours there each month. These teens will help ensure the library is somewhere all teens want to be.

“We now have the Honeycomb House, and the TIC TAC committees of the last couple of years helped greatly to create that space, giving us input on what they wanted to see in a new teen space at the library,” said Stephanie Kuhn, youth and community librarian.

For further information on the committee or on programs offered for teens in the city, visit the library’s website, and follow its social media accounts.
