Between 2 and 3 a.m. Wednesday police responded to two independent break and enter incidents that resulted in the arrests of two suspects.

At 2 a.m. members of the Medicine Hat Police Patrol Section were conducting patrols in the 400 block of N. Railway Street SE and observed a male exiting a business.

Due to the suspicious nature of the time of night and location officers further investigated and found that the building was insecure and numerous items had been removed.

Police subsequently arrested a man, 44, whose name was withheld, who has been taken into custody and charged with break and enter as well as committing a theft over $5,000.

Police were able to recover all stolen property.

The accused man was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released to appear in court Sept. 4.

Within the same hour, at 2:52 a.m. Patrol Section members responded to a 911 call reporting a home break and enter at a residence in the 600 block of Eighth Street SE.

Police say the homeowners were present at the time their home was forcibly broken into by a man not known to them.

With the assistance of the homeowners, police were able to arrest the man, 54, and take him into custody.

Police have not released any charges or the suspect’s name but say he was released from custody following a bail hearing and is expected to appear in court on Aug. 28.
