news@medicinehatnews.com Every year the Alberta Blue Cross showcases people who make positive changes toward being healthy, or inspiring others to make healthier choices, through its Faces of Wellness program that awards one recipient with an all-expense-paid weekend getaway in the Rockies. Online applications are now open for anyone who is promoting a health-related cause, advocating for wellness in their workplace, standing up for mental health, making the most of life with a chronic condition or simply making positive lifestyle changes to become a healthier person. Last year Ufuoma Muwhen received the grand prize out of 223 total applications for her work founding NotJustYou, a nonprofit sickle cell support organization that provides a platform for people living with the disease to connect, share experiences and access support. Muwhen has lived with sickle cell disease for 18 years before she was cured after a bone marrow transplant. Muwhen continues to share her experience, resilience and dedication to her community and is focused on advancing knowledge around the disease. “It’s important to recognize and celebrate the joy and fulfillment I find in life’s simple pleasures,” says Muwhen. “Promoting a balanced and positive outlook.” Albertans are encouraged to apply or nominate someone they know online to be recognized as the next Face of Wellness by visiting community.ab.bluecross.ca and scrolling and clicking the ‘Programs’ tab. Application deadline is Oct. 1. The Blue Cross will announce the 10 finalists and grand prize recipient in December. 9
