Downtown road construction on schedule as city completes third of five phases

Lengthy road construction in the core remains on schedule, according to city officials, as the intersection at Third Street and Fifth Avenue SE was opened to motorists late last week.

According to an online release this marks the completion of three out of five stages as crews continue to perform important utility and surface upgrades to downtown infrastructure.

Currently Third Street is closed from S. Railway Street up to the intersection at Sixth Avenue SE, and will remain closed as work continues on phase five of the work. Phase four is also ongoing according to the city’s website.

Once construction has completed the city says it will benefit from enhanced sanitary sewer mains, water mains, storm systems and utility services. The project also includes a community enhancement portion that includes adding new street furniture, planters, trees and signage.
