With a high of 37 degrees, staying cool and hydrated is on the minds of city residents, even as they brave the heat for the opening of the midway for Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede week.
The weather wasn’t of high concern when Stampede general manager Ron Edwards spoke with the News last week, where he commented that Medicine Hat often experiences hot summers and most locals are used to it.
“We have mister tents and things like that, I think people just really need to make sure that they don’t get dehydrated,” said Edwards. “We have water everywhere. There’s water stations, you can buy water just about everywhere you want. And we just have to make sure that we have a lot in stock, for our part.”
Many businesses also sport misters for their patrons, making visiting the different vendors a smart choice for the heat-sensitive Stampede-goer.
Edwards also recommended taking frequent breaks at shaded tables, or in pioneer village, where the tree coverage will help mitigate the temperature, and stressed the importance of dressing for the weather conditions each day.
For those in need of an ever cooler solution than shade and a trip to the Swirls’ truck can provide, the Visual Arts Show and similar indoor displays do run from noon to 8 p.m. for the duration of Stampede week.
