Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre to offer two unique guided walks

By Anna Smith Local Journalism Initiative on July 23, 2024.

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre is looking to introduce residents to new paths throughout the city on the Hidden Gem Walks.

“Come meet your new favourite hidden path and learn about the local environment of Medicine Hat. This series of two walks will feature two paths in the city and provide information about our local ecology,” said Alex Gavey, park Interpreter.

The two walks consist of a walk through a cottonwood forest below the Ranchlands neighbourhood, as a guide speaks on the origin of the cottonwood forests and some challenges they face today, and a guided walk follows along a stretch of Ross Creek just behind the historic Medalta potteries.

The cottonwood forest walk will take place Aug. 3 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with attendees meeting at the end of Ranchlands Boulevard. The urban stream walk will take place Aug. 17 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., and those interested are asked to meet at the baseball diamond parking lot in Strathcona Island Park.
