City spray parks to open earlier

Spray park hours have been expanded into the morning hours at two south-end locations, the city’s parks department announced on Thursday.

Starting today, the Saamis Rotary and Ross Glen spray parks will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. to match hours at Kiwanis Central Park and Strathcona Island.

Previously, the two southern spray parks opened at 1 p.m. in order to help meet a water-use reduction goal of 10 per cent this summer.

Some residents complained that morning hours would benefit younger children by allowing use outside the hottest afternoon hours.

Officials said that the adjustment comes after success in meeting the early objective, and another review will be done at the end of July to inform operating hours in August.
