During the Saamis 40th anniversary celebration, the South Eastern Alberta Archaeological Society is inviting residents out to a special event at Kin Coulee Park on July 10.

“We invite everyone to bring their artifacts and collections to the event, where two professional archaeologists will be on site to help identify and provide information about the items, shedding light on their origins and significance,” said Cathy Linowski from the South East Alberta Archaeology Society (SEAAS).

Whether these artifacts are old arrowheads, a mysterious bone, or anything that someone may have found in their yard or field, this event serves as an opportunity to learn about the history of the area.

Archeologists are interested in learning where each item was found, said Linowski, and reassures residents that no items will be taken from their finders after examination, as they are solely interested in providing information and documenting findings.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for landowners and community members to contribute to the understanding of our region’s rich history,” said Linowski.

The event is free of charge, and is part of the 40th Anniversary of the Saamis Archaeological Site. The event will also feature guided tours, performers, displays and activities.
