Saskatchewan’s population tops 1.23M

The population of Saskatchewan in nearing one and one-quarter million people, that province announced Wednesday.

According to quarterly population updates provided by Statistics Canada, there were 1,231,043 people in Saskatchewan on April 1. That’s 30,503 more than the same time last year, and a 2.6 per cent annual increase.

The population reached 1 million residents for the first time in 1983, but levelled off and actually dipped just below the million-mark in 2007.
