A new flexible learning lab at Medicine Hat College will provide students more options on how they choose to access their courses, and will be funded with support from a nonprofit known for providing awards and scholarships to business schools and accounting students across the province.

The CPA Education Foundation Flexible Learning Lab will include a SMART board, microphones and several camera views providing students the option of in-person, virtual and asynchronous learning.

Rick Robinson, associate dean and instructor at the college’s School of Business and Continuing Studies, says the upgrades will improve the experience for virtual learners.

“We are so thankful to the CPA Education Foundation for their ongoing support of flexible learning at Medicine Hat College,” says Robinson. “Prior to these upgrades, engaging virtual learners in computer labs was very difficult. With these new tools, students who join class from a remote location will be able to interact with fellow-students and the instructor in a much more dynamic way.”

Robinson says there is growing demand for accounting students in the region and expects more flexible learning options will provide more opportunities for students to study in the field.

Representatives with CPA Alberta Education Foundation say they are committed to providing resources that improve the quality of post-secondary accounting education.

“We are thrilled to support Medicine Hat College in integrating virtual learners into their classrooms,” says Gordon Beal, outreach vice-president.
