news@medicinehatnews.com Students graduating from a variety of programs including health-care aide, criminal justice, power engineering, practical nursing and many more will don their gowns to celebrate their post-secondary accomplishments. On Friday afternoon Medicine Hat College is hosting its convocation ceremony for the class of 2024 at Co-op Place beginning at 1 p.m. Doors for guests will open at noon and there is no limit on the number of people graduates can invite for the three-hour ceremony. This year the college is honouring four award winners including honorary applied baccalaureate degree recipient Nichole Neubauer. Neubauer is recognized for her commitment to agriculture, education and the community and was named the 2023 Newsmaker of the Year. This year’s Student of the Year award recipient is Rebecca Hirsch. Marrisa Kollross has been honoured with the Governor General’s Academic Medal and Dr. Brian Duffels and Duane Dleaurier are recognized as Instructors of the Year. Lifetouch Photography will be available to do portrait sessions on the concourse after the ceremony until 5 p.m. All guests are invited to stay for an alumni social following the ceremony that will include light refreshments. College officials are asking those in attendance to remain for the entirety of the ceremony out of respect for all graduates. 10
