newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Monday saw Parkside Jr. High School on a hold and secure, keeping students inside during breaks and physical education. The choice was made “out of an abundance of caution,” said Prairie Rose Public Schools in a letter sent out to Parkside parents, following a threat made toward a student over the weekend. A hold and secure is not a lockdown, said PRPS. The threat occurred outside the school environment and outside school hours, said PRPS, and RCMP were notified by the student’s family. While the RCMP determined the threat not to be credible, the division made the assessment that students may be safer inside the school, when the RCMP communicated with the school in the morning after classes started. Classes were conducted as normal, with recess and physical education occurring inside the building, and students held inside the locked doors until the end of the day, when they were closely supervised as they left school grounds, and the hold and secure was lifted. 7
