@MedicineHatNews Public service workers in Alberta are gearing up for bargaining this year with 52 town halls beginning next month across the province and the southeast region. The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees states that contracts representing 82,000 of its members will be up for renewal in 2024, with wages, job security and working conditions on the table. AUPE officials however, say signals show minimal wage increases and “almost no improvement” to working conditions have been offered. “We will fight for the collective agreements that hardworking, everyday Albertans deserve and ensure they have the support they need to give their very best for their family, friends and neighbours,” said Curtis Jackson, AUPE’s vice president, who represents the south region. “Time for Action” town halls for union members will take place in 11 centres in southern Alberta outside the Calgary region in June. The event in Medicine Hat will be held Monday, June 10 at the Medicine Hat Lodge. Other events will be in Bow Island on June 4, Brooks on June 5, Oyen on June 11 and Taber on June 20, along with several in Lethbridge and surrounding area. AUPE represents some workers directly employed by the province, health-care providers, school boards, ATB Financial and other provincial agencies. 9
