May is Leave a Legacy Month with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, and as part of the occasion, the organization would like to remind residents of one of the many ways they can create a lasting impact on the region.

Many people may be unaware of the option to dictate a legacy gift, said CFSEA, or a donation to a charity written into a will, which plays a vital role in supporting local causes even after the person in question has passed.

“Leaving a gift to charity in your will is not just about financial planning; it’s about creating a lasting legacy of compassion and generosity,” said interim executive director Chris Christie. “By including charitable giving in your estate plans, you not only ensure your values endure beyond your lifetime but also empower organizations to continue their vital work for generations to come.”

With May nearly over the CFSEA encourages residents to consider a bequest when they are considering putting together their wills, which may benefit not only the charity of their choice, but their beneficiaries, as estates receive a tax credit for the full value of the bequest, enhancing the person’s final income tax return.

This can help maximize the value of your estate for your beneficiaries, says CFSEA.

“Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Together, all gifts add up to create a significant impact.”

Those interested in learning more about how a bequest or other donation can make an impact are encouraged to call 403-527-9038 or reach out to admin@cfsea.ca.
