The Medicine Hat Public Library is looking for donations in preparation for the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale.
With the event itself less than a month away, the organization is looking for gently used items in order to supplement the sale, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 31 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 1. The sale itself, which takes place twice a year, generally raises anywhere from $5,000-7,000 for the library.
For the purposes of the sale, the library is accepting books, both fiction and non-fiction, says Chris Brown, head of marketing and community engagement, as well as CDs, DVDs, board games and magazines.
“We aren’t, however, accepting anything that’s too damaged, (or) textbooks, encyclopaedias, VHS tapes, or cassette tapes,” said Brown. “So nothing too damaged, nothing too old.”
As a majority of the sale’s items will come from these donations, Brown suggests to have any donations in by May 29, the Wednesday prior to the sale, and to show up early on sale days as they are often crowded events.
“It’s a great thing. The book sale is definitely a huge benefit to us and we appreciate all the support from the Friends of the Library that they give us and of course from the community by way of donations and the purchasing of the items on the day,” said Brown.
