Swimmers will be taking their flippers to new pools to start the summer.
As city crews start preparations to shutdown Kinsmen Aquatic Park at the Big Marble Go Centre for renovations starting May 15, plans are being made to accommodate swimmers.
Outdoor pools will open as follows:
Hill Pool (44 Seventh St. SW) opens May 15, Echo Dale Swim Lake opens May 24 and Strathcona Pool (1150 Fifth St. SE) June 1.
Residents can splash around when spray parks open for the 2024 season. Ross Glen Spray Park and Saamis Rotary Park open May 17, and the Kiwanis Central Park and Strathcona Island Park will open June 1.
“We have extended our operating hours at our outdoor pools and Crestwood Rec Centre to accommodate the swim clubs and other user groups who typically operate at the Kinsmen Aquatic Park,” Scott Richter, interim recreation manager with parks and recreation, said in a statement. “But the public hours are similar to previous years and are kept up to date on our website.”
On Wednesday, the entire Big Marble Go Centre will be closed for a planned one-day power outage to conduct electrical work. The outage will also affect the ball diamonds, BMX track, Methanex Bowl, outdoor pickleball courts and outdoor washroom building on the property.
The gymnasium, field house and South Country Co-op Fitness Centre at the Big Marble Go Centre will reopen May 16 and remain open during construction.
The Kinsmen Aquatic Park is expected to reopen Sept. 15. The Cenovus Arena at Big Marble is currently closed for upgrades and will reopen in July.
