Accessibility upgrades begin at Moose Rec Centre

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on March 27, 2024.

Construction begins this week to improve accessibility at the Moose Recreation Centre.

The city announced Tuesday that work is underway at the Southeast Hill facility, with the project adding a universal change room, an accessible public use washroom, a new janitorial area and minor upgrades to infrastructure and utilities.

Officials say work should conclude in early August and will occur during the day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow for dry land recreation programming to continue in the evenings.

“When the ice is out, floor space is important in the spring for activities like ball hockey, lacrosse and soccer and we try to minimize impact to our users as best as we can. For this particular project, we are able to keep the facility in use during most of the construction,” said Mike Hirsch, project manager with the city’s fleet and facilities department.

“Our contractors have built time into their daily schedule to adequately prepare the facility for safe use each evening after their workday, but we still encourage patrons to remain vigilant and exercise caution around the work zones and equipment.”

Any patrons are asked to observe instructions on construction signage.
