ANNA SMITH asmith@medicinehatnews.com Local Journalism Initiative reporterConstruction funding for Holy Trinity Academy has officially been approved as of Monday, in a release by the province detailing 43 priority school projects as part of the 2024 budget.
The school, planned as a replacement for St. Francis
Xavier that will be located on the current school site, will serve students ELP – Grade 9, and include a theatre and a physical literacy space as it combines St. Francis Xavier, St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s into one school community.
At the Tuesday school board meeting, trustees expressed their excitement regarding this significant milestone in the project and Secretary Treasurer Greg MacPherson further explained to the board how payment as per their letter of commitment will proceed.
“When we signed off the letter of commitment, it was expected that we would make the 80% payments in October,” said MacPherson. “The actual timeline for that payment will be six months from the tender acceptance date. We expect that to be in November so we wouldn’t be looking at April payments so that gives us an additional year.”
MacPherson expects to have a more concrete plan for payment as the nature of the fundraising campaign and the grants the division is applying for unfold further.
