A recent security system upgrade at the Medicine Hat courthouse cost about $1.1 million in total, according to a listing of contract changes published by the province this month.

The previously unstated budget was listed in the Alberta Gazette on Feb. 15 as final costs came in about 10 per cent higher than expected due to “unforeseen” but unexplained difficulties.

As well, additional cameras were added to the scope of the work and a new cooling system for computer servers was required.

The work was completed by Wahl Construction of the city.

The same list includes similar upgrade at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre that would up costing $2.2 million, or 28 per cent more than expected, to meet security requirements. Neu-lite Electric, of that city, performed that work.
