First responders were called to the Circle K convenience store and Shell gas station on the corner of Southridge Drive and Sage Road after an SUV crashed into a gas pump shortly after 6:45 p.m Monday.
Firefighters say one person was treated for minor injuries by EMS on scene.
No more than litres of fuel and oil spilled from the both the vehicle and gas pump, and were cleaned up by members the fire department who were on scene for about an hour.
Platoon chief Gerald Bodnaruk says gas pumps are designed to prevent fuel leaks in case of an accident.
“Modern gas pumps are designed to stop the fuel pumps as soon as there’s any damage to them,” says Bodnaruk. “And that system worked last night, so there was about 15 litres of fuel spilled and that was it.”
“The automatic safety systems on the fuel pumps these days, if they work properly, they are very effective.”
All fuel pumps at the Circle K convenience store and Shell gas station have been turned off until repairs can be made.
The News reached out to police for comment on the SUV’s speed and if any the driver is facing any charges however did not receive a comment at the time of publication.
