@MedicineHatNews Local groups were awarded more than $100,000 in total as the province released its list of Community Initiatives Program grants for the beginning of the calendar year. January dispersals involve applications received in the summer, and include $31,382 to the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank (the Root Cellar) toward the purchase of a delivery vehicle related to the brown bag lunch program. Three other Medicine Hat-based applications received funding: – HALO Air Rescue society, $22,164, for marketing and communications costs; – Medicine Hat Manta Rays Summer Swim Club, $1,326, equipment purchase; – Medicine Hat Pickleball Club, $21,723, expenses for hosting the 2023 Western Canada Pickleball Championship tournament; In the operating funding category, Medicine Hat Family Services received $57,541 to cover insurance, rent and utilities. Similarly, the Brooks and District Seniors Outreach society received $60,000 for operational expenses. Also in Brooks, the Chinook Rodeo Association received $27,950 to help with hosting costs of the 2023 sudden-death finals. 11
