The required age to buy tobacco or vape products in Saskatchewan increases next month, that province’s health ministry is advertising.

Starting Feb. 1, the minimum age will be 19, up from 18 at present, to align with age restrictions on purchasing alcohol or cannabis.

The move was unanimously approved by the Saskatchewan legislature last October.

“It is important for us to protect Saskatchewan youth from the dangers of tobacco and vapour products,” said Health Minister Everett Hindley in a release. “These products have no place in Saskatchewan schools.”

Retailers will be required to advertise the change and enforce the new regulation.
