The Praxis Science Outreach Society will be holding a one-day conference at the end of the month designed to get girls involved in STEM subjects.

The 32nd annual Operation Minerva Conference aims to develop awareness and showcase career opportunities that exist in the STEM fields.

The conference will include innovative workshops and displays and will host formal and informal discussions.

During the conference attendees will be able to job shadow with a female role model or scientist that is part of the conference’s ‘star cast.’ Several will be travelling from as far away as Calgary to participate and provide girls with hands-on lab opportunities and more.

The conference also looks to dispel myths and stereotypes that surround science and technology and showcase the women working in the STEM field around southeastern Alberta.

As well, Operation Minerva hopes to inform parents and educators on the small number of girls choosing science, technology, engineering and mathematic courses and careers.

The free all-day conference will be held at the Medicine Hat High School science lab area on Jan. 30.
