medicinehatnews.com@Medicine Hat News Landmark Cinemas will permanently close the Oasis Theatre in Brooks as of Friday, a notice from the company stated Monday. The facility on Second Street W. in that city was originally called the Gaytel Theatre, according to the Brooks Downtown Association, but was converted back from use as a church in 1995. Willy Wonka will be the last showing. Landmark owned the Towne Theatre in Medicine Hat and purchased in the Monarch in the city’s centre in the early 1980s. Both were closed in 2007. The company operates cinemas in 12 Alberta cities, including Calgary and Edmonton as well as Drayton Valley, Edson and Spruce Grove, but Brooks was the last in southern Alberta outside of Calgary.
