Are you up at night worried about a brown Christmas? The extended forecast doesn’t look good for snow ahead of Dec. 25 in Medicine Hat.
Enivronment Canada is calling for overnight lows just below freezing and generally sunny daytime conditions until the weekend.
The outlook on the Weather Channel predicts dry conditions through New Year’s Eve. Should the white stuff fail to appear it would mark the third brown Christmas in the last six years, according to Environment Canada data.
There were 14 centimetres on the ground in 2022, though that was met with a chinook and rain after a week of frigid temperatures across the continent that suspended air travel before the holiday.
Year-end at council
City council members will discuss the idea of creating a municipal sunshine list to disclose top salaries at city hall in the final meeting of 2023.
Other business includes council’s initial look at the proposed environmental roadmap for the city. Council passed the 2024 budget update in late November.

Helium taking off
Premier Danielle Smith opened the Medicine Hat Stampede Beef Pen Show on Friday night then attended the grand opening of a helium processing facility just north of the riding, near Drumheller on Saturday.
Royal Helium operates the well and initial gathering facility at Steveville, north of Dinosaur Provincial Park.

Train comes a rollin’
The CPKC Holiday train visits Medicine Hat’s marshalling yard on Tuesday afternoon. The fundraising show for food banks is set to begin at about 3:15 p.m. and include a performance by the Hat’s own Mackenizie Porter and Dallas Smith. More information is found here.
Tigers enter holiday break on high note
The Medicine Hat Tigers hit the WHL holidays in styler, with a 7-2 win Saturday at Co-op Place over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. A game story on that win can be found here.
The Tigers (21-9-2) head into the break in second place of the Eastern conference and in first place of the Central division, seven points ahead of the second place Red Deer Rebels. Their next action is Dec. 27 when they head to Red Deer. The next Tigers home game is Dec. 29 against the Swift Current Broncos.
