Santa Claus coming to town

He sees you when you’re sleeping and will also be traveling from the Big Marble Go Centre to the Medicine Hat Mall along major routes this evening.

The Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Parade, sponsored by IG Wealth, will leave the northside leisure centre lcoation at 5:30 p.m. in a Christmas convoy down division Ave, then across the Mpale Avenue Bridge and up Dunmore Road to spread Christmas cheer along the way.

Recall petition due

An effort to unseat Mayor Linnsie Clark has until the end of business today to submit 26,000-name petition to city clerks office to instigate a recall process and force a byelection.

Community wellness plan

City council committee meets this afternoon to discuss a promised community wellness plan, a request from the city’s roller derby assoication and get an overview of operations in the new unit that damages Co-op Place and the Esplanade.

City council’s last meeting of the year is set for Dec. 18.

Big night in Vegas NFR

Bullrider Jared Parsonage wound up one spot out of the money on the opening night of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas on Friday night, but rolled to first-place and a $39,000 payday on night two.

The Maple Creek native rode “Umm” a Barnes Rodeo Co. bull for 87.5 points to earn day first place finish.

Parsonage scored 80.5 in the first go-round to place seventh.

Another Canadian Zeke Thurston scored the top saddle bronc ride on Friday, and the Big Valley, Alta. cowboy now sits atop the world standings for season money at $272,000.

The ten-day NFR continue through Sunday.

Tigers sweep weekend

The Medicine Hat Tigers had a winning weekend, sweeping their home-and-home series with the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Tigers beat the Oil Kings 8-2 Friday at Co-op Place before holding for a 3-2 win Saturday at Edmonton. The line of Tomas Mrsic, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Hayden Harsanyi had a big weekend for the Tigers, with a combined four goals and 12 assists in their two contests against the Oil Kings. Zach Zahara made 30 saves Saturday for his seventh win in seven appearances this season. A game story on the win can be found here.

The Tigers (19-8-2) remain in first place of the Central division and second in the Eastern conference. They have three games this week, their final slate before the holiday break. They are on the road Wednesday against the  Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday and head to Calgary on Friday to face the Hitmen. The Tigers will host the Hurricanes on Saturday.
