newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com@@MedicineHatNews Medicine Hat police on Tuesday arrested and charged a 46-year-old local man in connection to a phone scam targeting seniors in the community. Following several reports from the public, police identified and arrested Ashley Gackle from Medicine Hat. Gackle has been charged with two counts of theft over $5,000, two counts of fraud over $5,000, as well as one charge of breach of release order and one breach of conditional sentence order. Gackle remains in custody and is expected to make a court appearance today. Police would like to remind the public about the ongoing phone scam. They warn scammers will call seniors pretending to be their grandchild, needing money transferred immediately because they are in some kind trouble. Police suggest verifying any request with family members before transferring money. Anyone who has been impacted by this is scam is asked to contact Medicine Hat Police Service at 403-529-8481. 10
