A ride share startup in Medicine Hat has been bought by the competition.

24/7 Rideshare was launched in early 2021 by Hatter Trevor Penner after city council amended its Taxi Bylaw the previous year to allow ride-hailing services in Medicine Hat.

On Monday it was announced that “Uride” had purchased the company and would keep Penner on as local manager to work with drivers.

“As we grew, it became clear that to maintain and improve upon our level of service, we needed to scale in a sustainable way,” said Penner in a statement, further describing the move as a “natural next step.”

“I’m looking forward to focusing on what I do best – ensuring that our riders have the best possible experience, and that our drivers are happy.”

Uride also operates in Grande Prairie in Alberta, along with mid-sized cities in Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick.

Helium well near Foremost

Global Helium says it has drilled and cased a second well under a farm-in agreement it has with Perpetual Energy on an expansive land base called the Manyberries Trend in southeast Alberta.

The company also stated in a release Monday it plans to commence testing on a first well completed in the area by the end of this month. That meets some conditions of the agreement with Perpetual that involves 20,000 acres.
