Bassano RCMP responded to the two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Range Road 191, north of the town, at 9 p.m. on Tuesday. They determined a westbound truck had been travelling in the eastbound lanes when it struck an SUV head on.

The 16-year-old SUV driver, of Leduc, the 40-year-old truck driver and another truck passenger, both of Brooks, were taken to hospital by air ambulance.

The highway was partially closed until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning as police investigated the crash.

Armed robbery in SW Sask

A knife-point robbery led to a brief manhunt and arrest in Shaunavon on Friday morning. RCMP officers from Shaunavon detachment responded to report that a man entered a business at about 8 a.m. before threatening staff and leaving with a sum of cash. No one was hurt and the culprit, wearing black clothing, a grey or green hat and a black bandana over his face, fled on foot.

Officers from Shaunavon, Pontieux and the RCMP’s canine unit arrested a suspect at about noon, but are not releasing other details.

Trucks gone from dump

Drumheller RCMP say two older model pickup trucks were taken when thieves broke into the area’s solid waste landfill on Nov. 11 and then used them in a business break-in early the next morning.

A 2005 white Chevy and 2013 silver GMC were apparently driven out through a perimeter fence late in the evening. The vehicles have been recovered but authorities are looking for a large quantity of STIHL-brand power tools and accessories taken from Drumheller Equipment Sales during a burglary Nov. 12.

The suspects are described at two males, both standing six feet tall, one slim and the other of average build.

The Drumheller detachment can be reached at 403-823-7590.
