Medicine Hat Remembers

Remembrance Day drew a large crowd to Riverside Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning in warm windy weather.
The event began with a service at the Esplanade theatre prior to a march down First Street before the 11 a.m. observance. Ceremonies also took place in Redcliff and Bow Island in the region.

Assault charges

Three Medicine Hat men are in custody after an assualt in Riverside on Nov. 8, the Medicine Hat police report. The disturbance took place on the 200 Block of Second Street, S.E. last Thursday and on Saturday, police said charges had been laid while the alleged victim is still in hospital.

The MHPS criminal investigations service has charged Jeremiah James Alfonse Amero, 33, Isaiah Cole Wawia, 28, and Ryan Joseph Paskaluk, 26, with assault causing bodily harm.

Amero also faces five counts of breaching court ordered conditions. They remain in custody until their next appearance in Alberta Court of Justice at Medicine Hat.

Windy weekend, warm week

Gusts reach 79 kilometres per hour on Saturday afternoon as a blustery weekend brought in a chinook to southeast ALberta. Highs in the low double digits are expected for the remainder of the week.

That bodes well for preparations and the annual “Midnight Madness” downtown Chirstmas kick-off event that is set for Friday night.

Tigers sweep weekend

The Medicine Hat Tigers continued a recent hot streak over the weekend, wining both of their contests for a four-game winning streak. They won a 2-1 shootout Friday at Moose jaw over the Warriors before beating the Wenatchee Wild, formally the Winnipeg Ice, 4-1 on Saturday.

The Tigers come out fo the weekend in first place of the Western Hockey League with two road contests on the slate for the week ahead: Tuesday agains the Swift Current Broncos and Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

This and that
