Brooks RCMP announced updates Thursday for two investigations. The RCMP made an arrest regarding an incident in October of a female falling out of a speeding vehicle. On the night of Oct. 24, witnesses reported a red Cadillac Escalade speeding through a construction zone on Silver Sage Road in Brooks and saw a female falling out of the passenger side door. The female suffered critical injuries which resulted in a prolonged hospitalization, but she has since been released. The Cadillac Escalade was located and a search warrant completed with evidence gathered furthering the investigation to a suspect identification, with them and the victim known to each other. In the early morning hours Tuesday, Brooks RCMP co-ordinated a joint effort with the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit and general investigation section, to execute a search warrant on a residence in Brooks. Kyle Potts, a 37-year-old resident of Brooks, was arrested and faces 22 criminal code charges, some of which include: Kidnapping, three counts of assault with a weapon, 12 firearm-related charges, theft of a motor vehicle and numerous fail to comply with conditions charges. Potts was remanded into custody with a future court date of Nov. 15 in Medicine Hat. Brooks RCMP also provided an update on a shooting investigation at a local bar. On Aug. 24 at 1:09 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a disturbance at a local business with an investigation revealing during the disturbance an accidental discharge of a firearm occurred, with one male hospitalized with serious injuries after shooting himself with the firearm. On Nov. 3, 45-year-old Brooks resident Yohannes Tekesti was charged with the following: – Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle – Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – Pointing a firearm – Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized – Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration – Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization – Possession for the purpose of trafficking – schedule I: methamphetamine – Possession for the purpose of trafficking – schedule I: cocaine Tekesti will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Brooks on Nov. 22. 21
